Elliptical Exercise Machine
An elliptical exercise machine, commonly known as an elliptical trainer, or cross trainer, is an excellent, very
affordable piece of cardiovascular and full-body (upper and lower) muscle-toning exercise equipment.
The Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer is probably the best value for the money if you're considering
an elliptical trainer. The link will take you to Amazon, and I think the reviews there pretty well
sum it up. Also, if you want to spend a little less money, the E35 is a very good machine.
Also, some of the Schwinn models are getting very good reviews, and are priced even much less
than the Sole E35. The Schwinn machines also have a lot more sells and are still maintaining a very high
rating. Schwinn may be the choice for an entry-level machine.
Although there are tens of thousands of treadmills sold annually, treadmills are somewhat limited in the workout
that they can provide when compared to an elliptical exercise machine. Any exercise is better than none at all, but
with a treadmill you are limiting the muscles that you exercise. An elliptical exercise machine duplicates a
walking or running motion, incorporates the arms and upper body, and subsequently many other muscles into the
workout.
When walking or running on a treadmill, you are also receiving practically the identical pounding on the joints,
as when you are actually walking or running on a sidewalk or pavement. Because of the inherit design of an
elliptical exercise machine, that repeated high-impact stress to the joints, especially the knees, is almost
totally eliminated. Because the legs are allowed to complete a full, fluid motion, much like when riding a bike,
there is no abrupt stop that results in the damage-causing and eventually painful force.
You often hear of the importance of a good cardiovascular workout. That's another attractive feature of an
elliptical exercise machine - it provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. An elliptical trainer isn't meant to
be a device for bodybuilding, but for weight loss, muscle toning, and a good cardiovascular workout. Cardiovascular
exercise, also referred to as cardiorespiratory, or aerobic exercise, is beneficial in many ways. Calorie-burning
is an obvious benefit to aerobic exercise, but the skeletal system, respiratory system and circular system also
benefit greatly. Cardiovascular exercise is also good for those at high risk of coronary disease. These are but a
few of the many benefits of cardiovascular exercise, some of the others are help in the reduction of high blood
pressure combating anxiety, depression and tension, decreasing resting heart rate, increased oxygen consumption,
increased levels of "good cholesterol" (HDL-high density lipoprotein) and many others.
So, even if you are wanting to embark on a bodybuilding workout program, a good cardiovascular routine is still
a very necessary part of a total health program, and there is no other piece of fitness gear that is better suited
for a good cardiovascular workout than an elliptical exercise machine.
